lecture took place to celebrate Soyinka's 80th birthday last
Friday. The lecture was organised by the National
Association of Seadogs, also known as the Pyrates
Confraternity, founded in 1952 by the writer and six other
members of the University College of Ibadan. Presently, the
Pyrates Confraternity philosophy includes fighting "against
convention", "against tribalism", "for humanistic ideals"
and "for comradeship and chivalry".
